About Utah Tech University
Package Includes
ESL Classes
Fifteen hours of English instruction per week focusing on speaking and listening. Instruction includes pre and post oral evaluations following ACTFL standards.
English Classes
This class develops all four skills (speaking, listening, reading, and writing) with an emphasis on speaking and listening. All course materials provided.
Speaking Classes
This class will give further opportunities to practice speaking and is specifically designed to improve student speaking skills by one sub-level on the ACTFL scales. All students are tested and rated at the beginning and end of the workshop to measure progress
Cultural Immersion Activities
Fifteen hours of cultural immersion per week, including activities with various student clubs and departments on campus, game nights, visits to local recreation and cultural spots, and more.
Weekend Excursions
Weekend trips to popular tourist destinations including Zion National Park, Snow Canyon State Park, and Las Vegas. The excursions are chaperoned and include transportation and meals.
Accommodation and Transportation
Home stay hosts provide students with their own room, breakfast and dinner, access to laundry facilities, and transportation to and from the campus.

Speaking Classes
In this class, students will practice speaking. It is designed to improve speaking skills by one sub-level on the ACTFL scales. Students are tested at the beginning and end of the workshop to measure progress.
Cultural Immersion Activity Prep workshops
Students prepare for the activity that afternoon. This typically involves learning the vocabulary and information needed to understand and participate in the activity.
Cultural Immersion Activities
Each afternoon students will participate in a different activity or event designed to get them out of the classroom and into the community.
Students Will:
- Measurably improve speaking skills.
- Develop competence and confidence in handling day-to-day social interactions in English, such as introductions, discussing family and home life, daily activities and interests, and telling stories.
- Increase knowledge of American culture and society.
- Interact effectively with Americans through activities in the local community.
- Participate in weekend excursions and many
cultural activities.
The program is equivalent in length and rigor to a 2-credit university course class.
Minimum English level: Intermediate-Low on the ACTFL scale.
Student speaking level can be assessed online before arrival.
